In This Lesson

A shop with one step at the front door isn’t trying to keep anyone out — but the person who can’t get in experiences it the same either way. Your website has steps too.

Learning Objectives

  • Define barrier-free design in your own words; building digital spaces everyone can use, regardless of how they see, hear, move, or process information.
  • Recognize that disability is common, varied, and often invisible.
  • Explain how barriers reach people without disabilities too – bright sunlight, broken wrist, muted video.
  • Spot at least one barrier on your own site without fixing it.

Your Action Step

(5 minutes) Open your website. Pick one page. Ask: If the images didn’t load, would I know what they show? Could I get through this page using only the Tab key? Is there anything I’d miss with the sound off? Don’t fix anything. Just notice, and log it in your workbook.
